Self Care
Self Care- what a beautiful thing, and if you google it, you will see images of meditation, yoga, spas etc. I hear a lot from people, there is no way they have time for self care, they are so busy with the various responsibilities that demand their time and energy. I also hear people feel guilty about taking time for themselves.
Self care is about paying attention to our energy levels, what fills our cup, what takes from our cup (both good and bad things can do this). We expend our energy all day with the tasks we are asked to do, required to do. Therefore, self care is a selfless act and not a selfish one, that asks us to make sure we find balance through the chaos of life.
Sometimes taking a full body deep breath can be self care, going for a walk around the block or a hike in the forest. Putting on a good song or album (for those who still listen to full albums :-)), reading a book, having a kitchen dance party etc. It can be saying “No” to your best friend because you are drained and tired, and just need a low-key night, or nap.
Self care is so personal and depends on our individual needs in that moment. Being able to identify what are your need, is an important place to start and paying attention to the things, people and tasks that give and take your energy. Then you can start to put in self care activities throughout your day.
TIP: Creating micro breaks in your day for 5-10minutes, for a self care activity can help to balance your energy levels, without you experiencing the super highs or super lows and than the crashes.
